Your wedding day is a celebration of love, a day you've been dreaming of for years - so don't let a little bit of wind or rain dampen your day...

While you might have pictured a sunny day with clear skies, the weather is one element you can't control. Instead of letting unexpected rain or wind dampen your spirits, embrace the beauty it can bring to your special day.

In this blog post, we'll explore 10 tips for making the most of the weather, creating stunning photographs and films, and ensuring your wedding day is unforgettable.

YOU WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT THE STORM THAT SURROUNDED US

Tip #1 - Scout the Perfect Location

This one should really go without saying... But start by choosing a venue that offers both indoor and outdoor options. There's not many left that don't do this, but they're still out there! This way, you can seamlessly transition between spaces if the weather takes an unexpected turn. Having a beautiful indoor space ensures your ceremony and reception can go off without a hitch, rain or shine.

Tip #2 - Invest in Stylish Umbrellas

Rain on your wedding day doesn't have to be a downer; it can be incredibly romantic and provide some truly lush photo and film. Provide stylish umbrellas for you and your wedding party to add a touch of charm to your photos. The venue will hopefully have a supply of umbrellas for your guests too (if they don't offer indoor ceremonies). These brollies will ensure your Bridal Party shoot can proceed without a hitch. Clear umbrellas are an excellent choice, as they allow light to filter through, creating a dreamy effect.

Tip #3 - Opt for Waterproof Makeup and Hairstyles

These days, this is pretty standard too - but ensure you speak to your makeup artists and hair stylists about waterproof options so you and your bridal party are prepared for the elements. Makeup and hairstyles that can withstand a little rain or wind can make a world of difference. This will not only keep you looking flawless but will also contribute to a stress-free day.

Tip #4 - Capture Candid Moments

Weather can bring out the most authentic and emotional moments. Encourage your guests to have fun in the wind and rain. Your photographer and videographer will always capture candid shots of you and your guests laughing, dancing, and celebrating, despite the weather. These moments will tell a unique story of your wedding day and often create some of the funniest and most memorable photos on the day.

Tip #5 - Choose Weather-Resistant Fabrics

This is a bit left of field, but can still be a total lifesaver! When selecting your wedding attire, consider fabrics that are more forgiving in various weather conditions. Light and breathable fabrics are ideal for warm weather, while weather-resistant options can keep you comfortable in unexpected rain.

Another great option is including a fun, funky bespoke bridal jacket. Not only will this look awesome in your photos and film, but it's practical too.

Tip #6 - Always Have a Backup Plan for the Ceremony

While an outdoor ceremony is romantic, having a backup plan is crucial. Work with your venue to have an indoor ceremony option ready to go. This way, you won't have to stress about last-minute changes if the weather takes an unexpected turn.

Tip #7 - Create Cosy Comfort Stations

If you've opted for a Winter Wedding (my fave!), or you're expecting cooler temperatures, create cosy comfort stations with blankets, shawls, and warm beverages (think spiced rum cocktails, hot toddies, mulled wine, red wine and sangria). This thoughtful touch will keep your guests comfortable and add a warm atmosphere to your celebration.

Tip #8 - Embrace Moody Lighting

Cloudy or rainy weather can create a naturally moody and romantic ambiance. Work with your photographer to make the most of the soft, diffused lighting for stunning and unique photographs. We can't stress enough how good it is to have some cloud cover on your big day - it really can make a stunning difference to your photos!

Tip #9 - Communicate Clearly with Vendors

Keep open lines of communication with your vendors, especially your photographer and videographer. If you have a planner or coordinator, ensure they have each others details to message each other throughout the day. As photographers and videographers, we will always be prepared for any weather conditions - but sometimes these swift changes in weather patterns can cause delays in the timeline that need to be communicated to the event organisers (often when away from the venue on the Bridal Party shoot). If we can communicate directly, it's one less thing for you to worry about. After all - we have to get that shot!

Tip #10 - Celebrate Regardless

Ultimately, your wedding day is about the love you share with your partner and the commitment you're making. Regardless of the weather, focus on the joyous moments and celebrate the love that brought you together. Find those little spots away from the crowd protected from weather and have a moment together in the rain. Make it work for you. Think outside the box...

Fuck the weather. Let your hair out. Embrace the wind. Have fun. Get wet. Dance in the rain. You won't regret it - I promise you that!

By embracing the weather on your wedding day, you not only create a memorable experience but also capture the beauty of spontaneity. From stylish umbrellas to moody lighting, these tips will help you turn unexpected weather into an opportunity for unique and breathtaking photographs and films.

Remember, the most important thing is the love you're celebrating, and a little rain can't dampen that spirit. Cheers to a day filled with joy, laughter, and beautiful memories!
